Fans reacted when Black Sherif explained at VGMA 23 why he never joined Sarkodie on stage.
Black Sherif, the 2023 VGMA Artiste of the Year, has explained why he opted to watch Sarkodie sing “Country Side” at the award event rather than joining him on stage.
Black Sherif stated that he opted not to perform with Sarkodie because he wanted to witness the iconic rapper’s performance as a fan during an interview on TV3’s New Day Show on Monday, May 8, 2023.
Despite working with Black Sherif on the popular song “Country Side,” Sarkodie did not invite Black Sherif to perform with him.
“I am a big fan of Sarkodie. I wanted to sit and experience him perform,” Black Sherif said.
Fans were astonished by the choice not to perform with Sarkodie because the two singers get along well and co-wrote one of the biggest songs of this time period.
He claimed that he made this decision because of his respect and affection for the artist. Black Sherif further disclosed that he was unable to perform twice following his own set earlier in the evening due to production regulations.
“After my set, I was not supposed to come back on stage to join him,” he revealed
Despite not performing with Sarkodie, the song also snagged the Best Collaboration of the Year at the same event.
The VGMA audience praised Black Sherif’s own performance, singing and dancing along to every song. With his songs connecting with listeners in Ghana and beyond, the young musician’s appeal has soared in recent years.
