I had to work 100 times Harder to be recognized in Nigeria But Still.. – Sarkodie

One of the top notch Ghanaian musician who has done so much for the music industry, more than any other artiste can boast of, widely known as Sarkodie, boss of the Sarkcess Music label, has reiterated how he had to work very hard for him to be well recognized as a major artiste in Nigeria.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM Daybreak Hitz morning show, in a video monitored by Sarkodiegh.com, the ‘No Pressure’ hitmaker reacting to a question if he gets disappointed, when Ghanaian mainstream artists like him and others are still not winning big Awards at the Grammys.

In his response, Sarkodie made it known that, Ghanaians has a lot of great musicians doing superp works they need to be appreciated and held in high esteem.
“The media should highlight the mainstream artistes works 24/7, and uphold it high like we have never heard it before. There are lot of things we did before the Nigerians and other African countries, but we leave all to go,” he said.

The Highest rapper also blamed the media for easily promoting foreign content, adding that, Nigerians hardly allow foreigners to penetrate their space.

When Beyonce dropped they were congratulating ‘Wizkid, Burna and the rest. So in my tweets, I said ‘Shatta Wale and other great artistes’. It’s an agenda… so you have to take your country serious. I open up to other musicians but my top priority is my people.

That’s something I think Ghanaians let go easily. We need to highlight our moments and hold on to them. We have done well but we still look out there.

Nigerians respect their work and you can never go close to their artistes. Even on their red carpet… it’s not a bad thing, I enjoy it… I hope my people will do the same thing, he told Andy Dosty.

He continued, “I support my Nigerian brothers, I do business with them, but my top priority is my people back home in Ghana. Let all make it an agenda to support our music to the top. I had to work 100 times harder to be recognize as one of the artiste in Nigeria, even with that, they still don’t recognize me as one of their own. But in Ghana, it’s the other way round”.

Sarkodie who has already won Independent Music Award for Best Song-Rap or Hip-Hop at the BET awards in 2014, and the Best International Flow on the same platform in 2019, is still working hard to get a breakthrough grammy award for Ghana.

He is finally out with his 6th studio album ‘NO Pressure’, in which he has released the official video for a from the Album titled ‘Non Living Thing’ featuring Nigeria singer Oxlade few days ago.
