Ghanaian rap legend Sarkodie created history on March 6 by selling out London’s 5,300-seat Royal Albert Hall for the first Rapperholic UK event in honour of Ghana Independence Day. With this accomplishment, Sarkodie joins a small group of international performers, such as Jay-Z and Adele, to headline the storied arena.
A variety of elite artists connecting the Ghanaian and UK music sectors performed on the thrilling evening.
Heavyweights in British rap Stormzy and Headie One shared the stage with celebrities from Ghana, such as King Promise, KiDi, Lasmid, and Efya, who got a standing ovation after revealing her pregnancy. Sarkodie also paid a moving homage to the renowned Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba that evening, recognising his impact on the nation’s music scene.
Sarkodie said halfway through the show that Rapperholic UK will make a comeback on March 6, 2027, this time at London’s 20,000-seat The O2. If successful, this would be a first for the continent: an African rapper from the continent performing in one of the biggest venues in the United Kingdom.
Sarkodie’s status as a worldwide representative of African hip-hop is cemented by the sold-out Royal Albert Hall performance. Fans around the world can anticipate an even greater celebration of Ghanaian music and culture in the years to come thanks to the announcement of Rapperholic UK 2027.
